In 1984 a blackened blade variety was offered for the MkII (Model# 5707). There is an 'S' in the serial numbers of the stainless models. L6 (tool) steel was used for the blade up to about 1980, then Gerber switched to Stainless. Serrations came out in late 1971, early 1972. In 1968 Gerber introduced 'Armorhide' handles. Gerber also made a Mark II Yellow Handle Dive Knife (aprox 1972). Roughly 1000 of the orange handle Mk II 'Dive' knives were made (Serial number 0248xx - 0415xx) from 1972 to 1975. Black handle Mark II's started around 1977.
